TB Strategic Partnership Group Interim Report

March 23, 2016 By Ashley-VetNI

For those of you that haven’t already seen it, here is the link to the TBSPG Interim Report.  The TB Strategic Partnership Group (TBSPG) is an independent high level advisory group which has been tasked by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development with developing a strategy and implementation action plan to effect a progressive and sustained reduction of TB in the cattle population here, with a view to eventual eradication. The Group is chaired by Mr Sean Hogan and is made up of five independent industry and stakeholder representatives plus two DARD ex-officio members.  The TBSPG was due to have produced its final report by now but has requested, and been granted, an additional extension on its deadline to submit its TB eradication strategy and implementation action plan.  The group wishes to secure input from external consultants, in particular to provide independent analysis of possible options and recommendations. The acquisition of the necessary consultancy advice requires advertisement at European level and the observation of specified time periods in the procurement process. This will mean that the consultants appointed will now be unlikely to complete their work before late May 2016.

A great turnout for Sue Randell’s Endocrine talk at VSSCo on 3rd March – notes from this talk available here!

March 8, 2016 By Ashley-VetNI

A full house at VSSCo last Thursday evening for Sue Randell’s talk on ‘Getting the Most Out of Your Blood Test Results in Dogs and Cats with Endocrine Disease.’
Diagnosing endocrine disease is seldom as easy as simply running an ACTH stimulation, T4/TSH level or a fructosamine level. Diagnosis requires astute interpretation of these results in the context of the clinical history, physical exam and minimum data base changes. There are many clues to be found in the minimum data base. Sue discussed some useful tips about what changes to look for, what these changes mean and when to worry about them.

Click here to view Sues’s notes from this talk – Biochemistry Changes in in Small Animals with Endocrine

Date of next meeting: 7th April—Stick injuries by Aidan McAlinden.  Don’t forget to register early as these meetings have limited spaces and places are allocated on a first come basis, if demand exceeds venue capacity we may move talk to a larger venue a few miles from VSSCo to ensure everyone gets hear this popular speaker!
E-MAIL: [email protected] to register now and don’t miss out!
